Social Dance Workshops for Adults and Kids (No partner necessary)

Are you a fan of Dancing With the Stars, or simply a fan of having fun? Straight from the Social Dance Studio in Minneapolis, Heartbeat welcomes instructors Eric Bolden, Israel Llerena, and Todd Paulus (schedule permitting).

Eric grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and has been dancing for as long as he can remember. He began Latin and ballroom dancing in 2005. Eric has taught in Nashville, West Hollywood, California, and has competed all over the United States professionally and in the Pro/Am circuit. Eric has obtained Dvida certification in ballroom dancing.

Israel has been dancing typical Peruvian dances such as Marinera, Afro Peruvian dance (festejo)Criollismo since he was six years old. He has performed competitively during primary and high school in Peru and later expanded his dancing repertoire to Brazilian Zamba and Capoeira. In 2005 he moved to Miami and learned Salsa and other Caribbean rhythms from his father.

Todd co-owns the Social Dance Studio with Joy Davina. He was born in Portland, Oregon into a family that was very involved in theater and music. After traveling to Ohio, Arizona, & Japan, he finally landed in the Twin Cities to teach social dance. Todd studied vocal music performance and dance at the University of Arizona and has taught Ballroom, Latin, Swing, and Country/Western dance for 8 years. His dream to share his love for the performing arts came true when he started to teach dance. In addition to teaching, he performs, competes, & DJs throughout the United States.

Break Dance Workshops for Youth and Adults (Ages 8 to Adult)

Hey, all you B-boys and B-girls, challenge yourself this summer in a high-powered workshop designed to build your stamina and strength. Participants will learn the history of break dance, and its various styles. These workshops are also recommended for dancers interested in auditioning for any of Heartbeat's performance companies that include break dance in its repertoire (Beat Squad, Heartbreakers, etc.)

ACTING WORKSHOPS WITH J. SCOTT SHONKA

LA-based film, theater and television veteran, J. Scott Shonka, returns to teach his popular acting workshops at Heartbeat. Educational, effective and fun, Shonka's workshops give opportunity for the students to learn acting technique, character development, and speaking skills.
